ENGAGE, EDUCATE, INSPIRE & EMPOWER

WITH ME, KATY GRAINGER

I am a multiple amputee because I didn’t understand the signs and symptoms of sepsis. It is now my mission to educate people on how to distinguish between having the flu and recognizing that you’re in a medical emergency and need to get to the hospital immediately.

I also share awareness about disability and limb loss through social media, speaking engagements, articles, interviews, and podcasts to help normalize body differences. The more we are exposed to disability, learn about it, and talk about it, the more we can understand and normalize it. I’ve expanded into modeling and acting to gain further exposure for limb loss and limb difference as well.

MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER

I have been sharing my personal and inspiring story as an international speaker at events, in videos and webinars, and in  interactive online meetings. I have worked with corporations such as Microsoft, bioMerieux, Pfizer, The Queeen's Medical System,  Pfizer, BIO and more.
My aim is to educate communities about sepsis, life after limb loss, patient advocacy and thriving after hardship or loss. I custom tailor every one of my talks or interviews to meet the needs of the audience.
With a background in sales and marketing, experience in fundraising, a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a love for inspiring others, I feel like my whole life has been leading me here.

“Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection that can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death.  In other words, it’s your body’s overactive and toxic response to an infection. Like strokes or heart attacks, sepsis is a medical emergency that requires rapid diagnosis and treatment. Sepsis can lead to severe sepsis and septic shock. Your immune system usually works to fight any germs (bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites) to prevent infection. If an infection does occur, your immune system will try to fight it, although you may need help with medication such as antibiotics, antivirals, anti-fungals, and anti-parasitics. However, for reasons researchers don’t understand, sometimes the immune system stops fighting the “invaders,” and begins to turn on itself. This is the start of sepsis.”
